The Week Ahead

Hello dear friend and reader,

I hope you are well. This is a short astrological weather report for the week ahead because …so many things.

I am eating my way through many boxes of chocolates and plates of shortbread. I am watching reruns of my favourite holiday movies (The Holiday is one of my faves) and because this has been a wet but mild winter so far, Don and I have been enjoying some birding. Yesterday we spotted 8 Great Blue Herons (!!!).

I am hoping to watch The Return tonight (with Ralph Fiennes as Odysseus). If you’ve watched it please share your thoughts in the comments.

The year begins with a challenge - certainly an opposition to your will. Whatever occurs at this time will fuel drama or come about because of an exaggerated response to events. You will want to hold off responding or reacting to whatever arises this week.

Mars retrograde in Leo is opposite Pluto in Aquarius. This energy has been building since mid-October. The opposition will be exact on January 2nd at 8:21pm PST. If you have a nocturnal chart (born at night/Sun below the ASC-DC line) you are intensely aware, like I am, of Mars’ face-off with Pluto. You may be feeling frustrated at things beyond your control. You may be feeling powerless and scared.

Breathe. You’ve been this uncomfortable before and you’ve survived.

The signs most impacted by this opposition are Leo and Aquarius (Sun or Rising).

Monday’s New Moon at 9º 43’ Capricorn is a Black Moon, the second New Moon this month. The Moon is sextile Saturn, an indication that you have to master your emotions and attend to things in an efficient and practical manner. Small steps now will eventually lead to success. Mercury opposes Jupiter and squares Saturn (T-square) and trines Chiron. Someone is blowing hot air. Do not allow their inflated ideas to take up space in your head.

You will want to look at your Capricorn house in your birth chart for a clearer picture.

Venus square Uranus brings attention to your finances and depending on where these two planets currently sit in your birth chart you may be or have been the recipient this past week of surprising and unwelcome news (check your Taurus and Aquarius houses).

On the 31st, Mercury is trine Chiron and Pluto is sextile the North Node. There is power in knowing what is for you and what is not. Align with your passion.

On January 1 the Moon enters Aquarius at 2:50am. If you started something on or soon after Monday’s New Moon in Capricorn you will now add your own unique signature to it or make some improvement.

The week ends on Saturday with the Moon in Pisces. While the Moon is in Pisces tell the people you care about that you love them.
