On my way back to my car this morning, after having taken an x-ray of my right shoulder, I was stopped by a rose bush ablaze in the rain. A decade ago those roses would have not seduced me with their beauty. A decade ago the old me would have been grumbling about the ache in my shoulder.
Yesterday I wrote about temporary blindness and I want to expand on that today because that rose bush helped me recognize that we spend far too much precious time focused on pain and failings and threats.
What if we decided to see abundance and beauty everywhere instead? What if we stopped our monkey minds from running to worst case scenarios at every opportunity and chose instead to be Here and Now in the present scenario with whatever shares our space?
What if whatever is sharing space with us at any given moment is a blessing, a messenger, a hand extended in greeting?
If we are all temporarily blind, let us be blind to the so-called flaws and threats.
Let us make peace with the fact that life is beautiful but life is also pain. Better to look for stars than dwell on the fading light at sunset.
Reflection:
What helps you when things go wrong?
Peace in the Present
My animals help to remind me to live in the present. They don't think wistfully of yesterday or anxiously at tomorrow. Although creature's of habit, they pretty much live in this moment now. (Don't try explaining Day Light Savings Time to them!) Music can help elevate a down trodden mind, especially happy, bouncy music that makes you want to dance! And comfort food. Eating something that has warm, fuzzy memories of safety can make everything alright. ❤️
I try to remember that I am the incarnated one in a vast group of spirits and that they are all ready to support me. Ironically, it's usually in difficult times that I forget they have my back.
