The Moon is Full at 4º Scorpio on Tuesday April 23rd.
Arriving after the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction that reanimated and pierced through sluggish and stale thinking and demanded a revolt of our Taurus house, we now find the Moon in the nutrient-rich and bone-strewn grounds of Scorpio.
Something has been lost or sacrificed. Perhaps you now find yourself unemployed, or between jobs, perhaps a worn out belief has been thrown out, perhaps a lover has moved on…
Your Scorpio house will reveal what has culminated and either withers on the vine or has fallen off to join the compost heap.
The first decan of Scorpio in which we find Luna, is ruled by Mars. Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto. Mars is conjunct the fixed star Markab in Pisces. Markab portends danger to life from cuts and fires. Both Mars and Pluto bring death, fear, dismay and disaster and it may well be that around the time of this Full Moon disaster and terror will strike in the form of devastating earthquakes, storms and acts of terrorism for example…
On a personal level, this lunation brings change that may be sudden/shocking. If you have planets within a 3º orb of 4º Scorpio, Taurus, Leo and Aquarius, you will feel this the most.
Hunger & Passion
Austin Coppock in 36 Faces, says this about this decan:
“In this decan we are brought to confront the cycles of hunger which are
the price and pleasure of incarnate being.”
What urges or cravings are driving you at this time?
Perhaps what you hunger for at this time is out of your reach. Perhaps you hunger for a particular person’s touch or presence? Perhaps you crave attention or fame or justice? This lunation asks you to sacrifice your craving for something healthier and more realistic (Sun in Taurus).
(I find myself having many conversations lately around the hidden blessing in not getting what you want. Maybe this resonates with you.)
So if you’re grieving or if you’ve had to reluctantly walk away from someone or some situation how do you move forward?
I will share here my process in living with grief.
Immerse yourself in your feelings. And then as I mentioned in this post, try to hold in your heart more than one possibility. There is grief, yes. But there is also hope. Better days are ahead. Days in which the sun will shine on you. Days where you will look back on your time with someone or your time in a particular position or place and you will feel gladness.
Venus-ruled Taurus is where we learn about Love. Love for the Earth. Love for the other. Love of Life. Love in the making and doing of things that add value. And by this I mean, creating things that are intrinsically rewarding but that also add beauty and/or make life easier and more enjoyable.
Scorpio on the other hand, is where we learn about Passion. Specifically, passion that borders on obsession because without passion you don’t create anything of real value (Sun in Taurus).
Herman Melville said that artists have to take a dive, and either you hit your head on a rock and it splits your skull and you die, or, that blow to your head is so inspiring that you come back up and you do the best work you ever did.
But — you have to take the dive. And you do not know what the result will be.
Maurice Sendak
Mars is conjunct Neptune and Jupiter is conjunct Uranus. The Taurus Sun continues to encourage us to prioritize pleasure and simpler, slower living. The Moon will be in a waning square to Pluto (and with the Sun forming a T-square). This indicates that something prior to this Moon was emotionally distressing (Jupiter-Uranus conjunction).
*After I wrote about this I read about someone who set themselves on fire outside Trump’s hush money trial. Both Taurus and Scorpio are money signs. This was quite a literal and terrible manifestation of the skies at this time.
In closing I would like to share this poem by Rumi.
A Chick Pea To Cook – Rumi
A chickpea leaps almost over the rim of the pot
where it’s being boiled.
“Why are you doing this to me?”
The cook knocks him down with the ladle.
“Don’t you try to jump out.
You think I’m torturing you.
I’m giving you flavor,
so you can mix with spices and rice
and be the lovely vitality of a human being.
Remember when you drank rain in the garden.
That was for this.”
Grace first. Sexual pleasure,
then a boiling new life begins,
and the Friend has something good to eat.
Eventually the chickpea
will say to the cook,
“Boil me some more.
Hit me with the skimming spoon.
I can’t do this by myself.
I’m like an elephant that dreams of gardens
back in Hindustan and doesn’t pay attention
to his driver. You’re my cook, my driver,
my way into existence. I love your cooking.”
The cook says,
“I was once like you,
fresh from the ground. Then I boiled in time,
and boiled in the body, two fierce boilings.
My animal soul grew powerful.
I controlled it with practices,
and boiled some more, and boiled
once beyond that,
and became your teacher.”
Wishing you an easy, grace-filled Full Moon!
