How to Build on Your Luck

I come from a family of gamblers. My father was mostly absent from my life because of his many addictions and other troubles. But when he was home, my sister and I would watch him place bets on horses with names like Politician and Wolf Power. He had a thing for Lady Luck. For years we thought she was a human being and one of his many paramours because her name was always on his lips. My father was an extraordinarily lucky man whose life experiences, like surviving an attempt on his life (a story for another day), left no doubt that Lady Luck had his back.

There are three schools of thought on the subject of luck. There are those who believe…

1. You make your own luck or,

2. You are born lucky or,

3. You build on your luck.

I am firmly in the camp that believes you are born to build on the luck you are born with because astrology proves this.

There are many factors - planets etc - that point to luck and how to generate more of whatever satisfies your heart, body and soul but today I want to talk about the Part of Fortune/FORTUNA.

One of the primary residences of Lady Luck is an Arabic part called the Part of Fortune. 

The Part of Fortune ⊗

The symbol for the POF is a circle with an enclosed cross. Parts in astrology are called “Arabic” because their development was attributed to the Arabs. The parts are also referred to as Lots in Hellenistic texts and they are mathematical points that are an integral part of chart interpretation. 

Among the most important parts in natal astrology are the parts associated with the 7 classical planets (Sun-Saturn). The Part of the Moon (or Part of Fortune) and the Part of the Sun (or Part of Spirit) are considered to be the most important. 

The Part of Fortune is used to describe the basic way in which the individual is physically connected with the surrounding world. It is one of the significators of the body and health, and it is the primary significator of prosperity, and also career as it relates to prosperity. - Robert Hand

Luck & The Part of Fortune

You can’t talk about LUCK and not look at Fortuna because Fortuna represents the area of life in which you have luck. This part signifies that which brings you comfort and joy. 

Once you have located Fortuna take note of the sign and house as this describes the areas of life in which you are lucky and the qualities that make you lucky.  There is more to consider, for example aspects to Fortuna, that I won’t go into here. In the meantime get to know Fortuna’s placement in your birth chart and the guidance offered.

Fortuna in the houses:

1st House:  You are lucky when you follow your own advice. Trust your instincts. Prioritize self-care. 

2nd House: You are good at acquiring and handling money.  No one will manage your money better than you. Consider starting your own business if you’re not already self-employed.

3rd House: Write. Do something that lets you communicate with a community of people. Your siblings increase your good fortune.

4th House: You have a talent for real estate. If there is a family business, you gain by sticking with it. If not, start your own family business. 

5th House: Visit a casino. Get a career in the sports or entertainment industries. Your children will bring you comfort and joy.

6th house: You must be of service. You won’t struggle to find good health care or assistance if and when you need it. Your colleagues are a source of comfort. 

7th house: Your partner is your best friend and you benefit through marriage/partnership. 

8th house: You gain from inheritances, legal settlements or tax payouts. You benefit when you invest your money. 

9th house: Higher education, travel and the book business are all good for you. Your in-laws will be your biggest supporters.

10th house: Your name is up in lights. You are successful in your career. Your mother is your biggest fan. 

11th house: You gain from networking. Attend conferences etc and build on your luck!

12th house: Fortuna smiles on you when you work behind the scenes. You have the ability to unlock secrets.
